What are vertebrates and invertebrates doing in the design industry?

Rhinoceros is a leader in design’s 3D industry. Grasshopper is mainly contributing to the creation processes around the globe. Ladybug, for her, supporting Grasshopper is a source of joy, and you can see her everywhere around him, of course with Rhinoceros companionship! What’s going on? What’s behind this? What are animals, specifically insects, too, doing in the design industry?

Many sporadic explanations can be found here and there. Differentiation, appeal, memorability, some even go deep into the “symbolism accompanying the human-animal relationships”.

Product naming after animals expands outside the computer-aided design industry. Some examples are Puma (sports shoes), le Tigre (clothing), Jaguar (cars), Mustang (cars), Impala (Roller-skates), Black Panthers (Sportswear), Penguin (books), and the well know crocodile of Rene Lacoste.

All this pushes me to think: What would the task of a “Cockroach” software be in designing a landscape? Can “Scorpion” software be a debugger? What about the “Kitten” software? Would it specialise in designing mice in the metaverse? And you, what would your idea of software named after an animal be?
