Outdoor addicts?

Who does not enjoy the great outdoors? We value physical activities in a natural or near-natural setting even more since we experienced a series of movement restrictions and lockdowns. The mental and physical benefits of physical activity are linked and well-documented.

During the pandemic, we all got creative to find access to nature, create natural spaces or find opportunities to exercise in our basement, back yard or staircase. Some of us ran ultra-marathons in our bedrooms.

Some cities, climates, locations and environments make access to outdoor sports easy, with excellent infrastructure and community. This is commonly reflected in the livability index.

I searched for opportunities to run and bike in the hot and dry desert climate.

Here, the Diplomatic Quarter supports a healthy lifestyle through ‘green’ open spaces and pedestrian areas. Not only are parks distributed all over the district (six main parks and many green walkways), but this quarter also gives access to at least three natural trails. In addition, the gravel trails away from traffic allow trail running and biking. Some even have outdoor gym equipment fitted.

Short connectors and green shaded walkways also exist amongst the build-up areas.
